Differentiating The Terms Eco, Sustainable and Green.

Eco Friendly, sustainable and “Green” are often thought to have the same meaning as we see a product branded with these terms. These terms do have their own definitions but they still cause a lot of confusion in the market  when we are looking for ‘good’ products.

So lets take a closer look at these definitions.

What does eco friendly and environmentally friendly mean?

Well Natured proudly offers eco and environmentally friendly products. What this means officially, according to the Oxford dictionary, is ‘not harmful to the environment’. This does sum it up, but when it comes to cleaning and personal care products, the definition goes a bit deeper.
There are many factors to consider that go into nurturing and not harming the environment, from ingredient selection and sourcing, formulation, packaging and even how a product is shipped. Also not using harsh, aggressive chemicals, pollutants and fillers in  product formulations and instead using naturally derived and biodegradable ingredients that are gentler and safer for  customers to use.

Here at Well Natured, I take on all these considerations when choosing the best  brands to offer my customers.

What Does Sustainable mean?

Sustainability refers to the environment and social impacts of the product over its life cycle, from the extraction of the raw materials to the impact of its use and then the final disposal.

A mantra usually associated with sustainability is

Reduce, Reuse, recycle.

In your home you can be sustainable by reusing glass jars, reusing grey water or growing your own produce.

The brands I choose are sustainable by using ingredients that are naturally derived and renewable, seeking reputable suppliers with environmentally compatible systems and minimise packaging or use recyclable packaging to name a few.

What Does ‘Green’ mean?

This is one of the broader terms that doesn’t offer any great insight into what brands mean by it, so anyone can say that they are ‘green’.

The colour green relating with earthy, healthy products, it can be a bit of a deceiving and confusing term for byers if further information is not provided. Some companies will simply use the colour green on their label with a picture of a leaf without changing anything with their processes. This is ‘greenwashing’ and can usually be detected when we dig a bit deeper and ask questions.

Here at Well Natured I have asked the questions and done the research into ingredients, the systems used and the packaging.

So I can offer you some of the best Eco friendly, sustainable, Australian Made and owned brands.

Enjoy shopping at Well Natured.
